THE TRAIL

The birdwatching trail begins in the area of the San Ponzo ponds, and ends at the Abbey of Sant’Alberto di Butrio. It follows pre-existing trails that cover a wide range of environments, representing a sort of overview of the nature in this area of the Oltrepò Pavese. The areas of Vignola, Pian del Lago and mount Nocelle are biodiversity hotspots. The recent implementation of the Voghera-Varzi Greenway and the presence of hiking trails marked out by the Italian Alpine Club allow this birdwatching trail to be inserted into a broader and more articulated network.

Along the route you will find 16 information boards, offering visitors key information concerning the various environments covered by the trail, with further reading about the typical birds found in each site. Some information boards also deal with historical and cultural themes, to enrich your experience of the region. In places of particular interest, picnic facilities have been provided, together large information boards with maps of the trail and information concerning both nature and culture and history.
